Riding my horse during the summer when all of the biting flies are out can be an extremely dangerous situation. I often worry when I am out on my horse that a fly will bite at the wrong moment and she might get nervous because of this. To avoid this problem all of the time, I have started to look for different kinds of items to use to get flies to go away.
Using something that will not scare my horse or cause her to bolt is something that is key to this specific situation. I know that by having the right kind of items that I can use around my horse, I can help to keep her calm even when the flies are biting all the time. Most recently, I have managed to find a great horse fly whisk to use to keep the flies off of her.
The whisk is made from material that is meant to mimic hair and to make it so that my horse feels that there is no threat to her personally. Using this to bat away flies has been really helping me to keep my horse calm on a consistent basis while we are out riding.
